Care & Maintenance
  • Do concrete pavers heave with freezing and thawing?
    • With the proper base and installation they will not heave.  After all, the Romans and other civilizations have been using stone pavers for thousands of years and some of them are still in use today!
  • How do I care for my driveway, patio, stair, ...?
    • Actually a properly installed stone and or concrete paver system requires very little maintenance.  Because these type of systems use small units your driveway, patio, etc... will have a built-in expansion and contraction system which will give it greater longevity than a traditional asphalt or concrete slab system.  In addition stone and concrete pavers have a much higher compressive strength than asphalt or a concrete slab system.  Two to three times more compressive strength (6,000psi - 12,000psi+ verses 4,000psi or less) depending on the products used.
  • How often should I seal my patio / driveway?
    • Sealer is used to make the colors richer and to bring out the natural highlights.  It is also used to prevent staining from food and other things such as leaves.  For these reasons it is not a requirement to seal your pavers, it is a matter of preference.  If you choose to seal, we recommend resealing only after the existing is worn down and dull or every 2-3 years (no sooner than once per year).  Sealing too often can create a buildup on the pavers that will both dull sooner and generally take away from the appearance of the pavers.
  • Will weeds grow in the joints between pavers?
    • Weeds will only grow in the joints depending on the type of material used (or sometimes caused naturally by soil building-up) in the joints.  We like to use weed retarding materials in the joints which has worked well for us.
  • Will concrete pavers hold up to plowing and auto traffic?
    • As mentioned before, concrete pavers have been used for thousands of years and have a much higher compressive strength than other paving materials.  With the proper restraint system they hold up extremely well to plowing and auto traffic, in fact, better than other paving materials such as asphalt and concrete slab systems.
